I use the run/walk method. I hurt my IT Band about three months ago. Anything over 6 miles was killing me. My doctor told me that some people are 6 mile runners and to prove him wrong. Well needless to say I have never been back to him.
I started the run/walk routine at a 4/1 intervals and the first time I did it my time was much faster. I used to average 10 min. miles and now I sometimes average 9:20.
This weekend I finished a 10 miler in 9:40 miles and I am not tired when I am done.
Plus the knee pain is not there.
I am doing my first marathon on April 25th, 2004 and I am going to use the 4/1 intervals throughout the whole race.
I think its great. Its the only way I can run.
