Hi,
I'm one of the people who post under two names. My other rare name is "BB Monitor #2".
In the beginning, this BB was the domain of hostile posters. They thought it was funny to criticize each other. Bambi was an active member. So was BB Monitor #1.
The owner of this site, John E., decided to rein in the negative posters. He gave three of us foxes the right to watch the chickens. We have the power to mark in red the postings that we think John should delete. Unfortunately, very few of these postings ever get deleted. For example, all the get-rich-quick postings are thus marked and so are most of the pointless but hostile postings. Also, BB Monitor #3 may have left, and BB Monitor #1 is inactive here because he is active as a college math professor (Dr. N is sort of like our Dr. Z).
Jackie S may be right about North in that North may post under different names. I can't confirm that. Other posters have noted that whenever North is active, the hostile postings increase. There may or may not be cause and effect here.
I mark only the hostile exchanges between North and others for deletion. I do this because I believe North is a sincere triathlete from Montreal who in most of his postings adds valuable advice about winter training. I rarely mark any posting by Bambi for deletion because, with her personality, that would almost delete all her postings. That would be bad, because she does have excellent advice, once you cut away the sarcasm. Bambi is particularly good about fast female runners (don't ask her how a fat male geezer should train to break 6:00, unless you want the sarcasm).
Back to history: After the hostile postings, we had perhaps 6 months of active postings by Voodoo, a not-so-fast, 30 something, female lawyer who wanted to be fast. She had personality in spades, as the saying goes. But eventually the hostility drove her away.
Dr. Z coincided with Voodoo's active period. After Voodoo left, Dr. Z has become the dominant personality here. Now even he is less active, but this is probably due to injury, since I don't think Scott has ever experienced hostile postings here.
After a few days, I'll summarize your ideas and forward them to John E. for his consideration. You could do the same. At the bottom of the home page, click on the web master icon and send a message to John E. Tell him how this Board could be improved. Perhaps ask to be a monitor yourself. Be nice, since to a large extent MarathonGuide.Com is a free gift from John to us. You can meet John at his MarathonGuide booth at marathon Expos (mainly DC and Boston).
Today is beautiful. I went for my longest run in weeks. You all keep running and posting!
Dave W.
