I have folloewd the Pfitzinger training plans in the past, and they have generally worked well for me. In particular, it was helpful to have target paces for each type of run: Lactate Threshold 15K pace, Long Run 10-20% slower than goal pace & VO2max 5K pace. But he was less specific about the general aerobic runs. I usually did them 5 to 10% slower than marathon goal (8:10 - 8:30 for a 8:00 mile marathon). I did, however, have my share of injuries during training, and felt a little beat down by taper time.
His most recent edition includes a target pace for general aerobic runs of 15 - 25% slower than marathon goal pace. I certainly can see how this would help keep me fresher, do better quality LT/VO2max in particular, and perhaps limit injury, but it just seems a tad slow. How fast does everybody else do their general aerobic runs? Many thanks.
