Since the forums have been pretty slow lately, thought I would create a thread for all to join in...
Help me make it across the Boson Finish Line!
I'm literally "Going from Couch to Boston"
Long story short....
Got myself into the 2013 Boston Marathon as a member of the AMAA.
4 weeks ago came up with a 4th metatarsal stress fracture of the left foot.
Podiatrist tells me I'll be able to start training again week of Christmas.
I'm looking for training suggestions.
Prior to the injury, I was running an average of 25 miles per week, with a long run of 9 miles.
I was using a run/walk method of running for 5 minutes and walking 2 minutes. I was able to maintain a 10 minute per mile pace and finish each run feeling pretty strong.
I now have 16 weeks to start a slowwwwwwwwww recovery and build up to one 20 mile run.
I'm thinking an eight day taper will be adequate. My goal is just to finish Boston around 4:45 - or so
I'm a 58 year old male, have plenty of marathon experience, and I typically finish at a comfortable 4:30.
Whattya suggest?
I can come up with a training program combining all suggestions.
Thanks!
Ed Geary
