FINALLY, someone came to their senses...

It took the wrath of Mother Nature to finally smack this race back to its senses.

It's unclear who cancelled it—they said 'officials' cancelled it—was it the Mayor or the race director? Doesn't matter—it should have been cancelled days ago. This race and its callous attitude have shown its true colors to the entire world now. Registration fees (on top of entry fees) and an entry fee ridiculously-priced twice what it should be and the drop-bag fiasco are overt signs that this race is just full of itself. It's too bad because marathons are about running and the 'esprit di corps'—we now know it's all about big business and less and less of a sporting event.

The right decision was made, but it came days late. They (whoever they are) did not have the courage to do the right thing days ago. This race gets the black eye it deserves and hopefully there are no lingering effects to the sport in general. When 99.9% of the nation, (including the citizens of NY) are screaming on social and broadcast media at you to NOT run the race and you ignore it, you are showing the height of arrogance and insensitivity.

Less clear is whether NY will waive the entry fee for 2013 while it allows a guaranteed spot for those who signed up for this year. NY—here's your first opportunity to do the right thing from the onset.
