Tim,
Congratulations! You're on your way to achieving a great goal of 50+DC.
I feel that the lack of "eye of the tiger" attitude is, in fact, good. You have a goal, you go out and knock down one state after another (I'll see you when you get to Utah!), and you go home. If you ran them all with the same intensity as your first ones, you'd burn out long before you get to 50+DC.
But then I'm 57. I enjoy life more and more for the little things (as well as the big), and just accept things as they are. I feel extremely grateful to have a body that allows me to run (well, I'm injured right now and doing mostly biking, but I'll get back to running in a few weeks).
OTOH, right now, I have such a strong goal to BQ, my marathons are every bit as exciting as the first ones. In my case, however, I'll be glad when it's over so I don't have to push this old body so hard and can just settle into nice, easy-going marathons for the rest of my life.
