I eat a banana every day and am usually (I think!) pretty good about hydration.. though I usually stick to water. Rita - it was happening no matter the time of day.. and I was starting out slow for the first mile or two.. and yes, they stayed tight the whole run:(

I think I may have a calf strain.. not sure if it happened as a result of the tight calves or caused them. I have pain in a specific area in one calf now.. and took a week off running because running just felt awful. Just started back.. slow, easy runs.. calves feel okay though the one calf is still sore. I'm stretching the calves every day. I have also started wearing insoles. . I have pretty flat feet and I think that may be the culprit. I also think I did run too long in one pair of shoes.. I have been wearing the Brooks PureFlow and am not used to how quickly they wear out:( I've also been noticing a lot of tightness in my hips so I'm wondering if that's a factor??

I was pretty good about increasing my mileage gradually and wasn't racing or doing speedwork at all...

I am grateful for any further insights you have!
