Another Howie here.
I don't think your parenthood provides any reasons whether to run a local marathon or another. You are going to be doing the same training, no differently whether you ultimately stay local or go somewhere else.
If you like the local marathon I say do it. If you're yearning to try a different one then do it. The only difference I see is marathon weekend - will you need to travel, or can you stay local? Either way, someone else will be watching your child. The only benefit of the local marathon in my mind is that you don't have to travel to/from the race and can be sleeping in your own bed the night before/after. There is a lot of appeal to that. On the other hand, after being a new parent for a few months, a short trip to get away from the daily routine can be a good thing too.
Bottom line, again, I don't think that parenthood should necessarily be much of an indicator whether to go local or elsewhere.
