Unless you are planning to run ultras, you might want to consider running from water station to water station. Most North American marathons provide enough hydration stops that there is no reason to carry your own.
It helps to practice drinking from small cups in smaller races - 10Ks and Halfs - but even if you just stop and walk through the water stops, you are almost certainly to be better off than starting with a six pound handicap (weight of the water plus the camelback).
