Hi everyone, I just wanted to relay an experience that i had in hopes that i might help others. On October 31 2010 I ran the Cape Cod Marathon in Falmouth Ma. I took a few weeks off to rest the legs and when i returned to running I found it very difficult to breath, literaly like breathing through a straw when doing anything even remotely challenging like climbing stairs. Running and cycling were definitely out of the question. I saw my doctor and several specialists who all thought that it must be something in my head because all my tests somehow came back normal. lung x- ray, pulmonary function, asthma and allergy, heart. I know they thought it was in my head because I was able to sneak a peek at my chart. Anyway, flash forward to November of this year when I had gained 40 lbs and could barely walk to the mailbox without really sucking wind. This next part is graphic. I started to cough blood which finally got the attention of my doctors and after a few false starts and a long denied C.T scan it was discovered that I was suffering from something called a Neuroendocrine or carcinoid tumor in the middle bronchus of my right lung. After a transfer by ambulance from western mass to Boston and surgery at Brigham and Womans hospital, I am on the mend and the future ( running and otherwise look bright ) with no loss of lung function due to a very specialized procedure that they have developed there. I post this in the hopes of helping someone else avoid all the frustration and anxiety that I experienced during this past year.

All the best. Jeff
