Chris - My thoughts exactly. What am I doing wrong or not doing? I have followed a training schedule (Runner's World and Higdon) for each race and have somehow ended up injured. I've run a half before with no problems - regularly did 10 mile runs for that one. The IT band I must agree with you was a stretching problem. I have to admit I had never heard of an IT band until I took a class to help train for the marathon - if you asked me a few months ago I would have thought an IT band was a rock group of computer geeks! Once I learned how and started to stretch for the IT band, I have had no problems since. The calf is what has me baffled. I want to say it has something to do with the shoes I was wearing. But could that really be it? Could a pair of motion control shoes that have little flexibility to them really cause (or at least contribute to) a calf injury? I follow my schedules to the T so I don't think I am increasing my mileage too quickly. I don't do speed workouts in the traditional sense. I run faster if I feel like it. That's my speed workout. There is the Ann Arbor Track club out here that is supposed to - at least from there web site - be really good. I've emailed them for some info and have not heard back. My fear about the track club is that my slow 9:30 mile self will be waaaayyyy out of her league with a track club. That's what I emailed them about. I'd welcome there expertise, help, support, etc. just so I don't have to go through this frustration again.
