I'm saddened to hear of the turn of events in your life, but "bad things happen to good people." I'm sure your personality and skills will see you through this challenge and help you find employment in the near future.
As for your upcoming hilly run, my vote is that you go with the group at the beginning of the run, tell the group up front that you're nursing a bad knee/hamstring, that you'd love to meet everyone but that you'll be taking the run very easy, using the Galloway walk/jog method, and they no one should feel obligated to stay with you. This will give you an opportunity to at least meat the person who my have a job opening, even if you don't actually talk together during the run. You can then make contact latter: "I am so-and-so. I met you at the such-and-such run. And I would be interested in talked to you about opening in your company." You have nothing to lose by that approach. And then, if, during the run, your hamstring should act up again, you can do mor walking and less running.
If people will be waiting for you at the other end of the run to get a ride back to the beginning, then it would probably be better NOT to do the run. (The potential employer might get annoyed that you made people wait for you.)
Best wishes. My prayers are with you.
