Hi kids, sorry I've been away :-)
I have a gal that I am training for a triathlon, who is my height and weight by and large -- and it's the funniest thing. As North said -- you can "look alike" but be as different as can be -- for example, Nike shoes (for whatever reason) seem to give me shin splints -- they are "heaven" to her! I am wearing a New Balance men's shoe now, tho I was always an Asics wearer -- another gal friend of mine (actually TALLER than I am, and also quite a bit heavier) swears by of all things Reeboks, where they fall apart on my feet.
Definitely, the way to go is to get to a "good" running store for your friend, and have her fit there. If her foot is very narrow, she might "have to" wear a woman's shoe -- although my heel is narrow, I seem to still fit in a men's (narrow) shoe, which gives me more room in the toe-box.
Good luck to her!
