issue 1: getting the runners in the correct corral. The Army Ten-Miler and the Marine Corps marathon use different color bibs to sort runners. One year the MCM even went so far as to line up the third corral runners on a side street that was the second arm of a "Y" set of roads at the start. Boston uses 'sets' of numbers and calls each 'set' for seperate starts. Using the chips could be done put there are probably other easier ways.
issue 2: adding half marathoners back to full, JUST DON'T DO THAT, or at least have them on seperate sides of a split road.
issue 3: MY pet peeve, that dog leg or boring turn aound. My favorite solution was at a small (multiple loop)marathon that had a bucket with concrete and a pipe set in it with an American Flag. Every time I went around it I thought of how much easier it was to run a marathon than be over seas getting shot at!
