I agree that Boston is definitely a more difficult course than those others mentioned and I disagree that a WR would not count on a tough Boston course.
I don't think they set a "world best" that day because of the "downhill" Boston course. I was not out there, but I would guess that the 20+ MPH tailwind was very significant. On a point to point course, there is the chance that you can get a day like they did on Monday and have a tailwind throughout. So I think the tailwind aided them more than the misconceived notion of an "easy" Boston course.
Question - I wonder what the rest of the pack experienced. Was the tailwind less of a factor in the pack since other runners block the wind, just as if there was a headwind? I know one person who ran and his time was not faster than in previous years - although there can be many factors at play here (training, etc).
