Patellofemoral syndrome

I ran my first half-marathon on 9/12/10. During my training, I developed some soreness and clicking in my right knee, and saw my Dr, who said likely was patellofemoral syndrome. I used a knee brace (neoprene type, with hole for the patella), and after a little rest, it got better and I was able to add miles and keep training. Usually, it would not hurt or bother me during the run, but the day after.

About 1 week before the half, I (quite foolishly) did some sprinting on a soccor field with my wife—and my knee hurt bad the next day. I laid off a bit, but ran the half even though it was still sore.

Anyway, I have tried to not use my knee much. I did a few very short runs with my kids (who are 2 and 4—so not far), a 10 minute run, and some strengh training. I'm now wearing a patella band all day. My knee is still bothering me.

I am very into running now, and want to run a full marathon next summer. I'm worried my knee is never going to get better! Anybody else with past experience with this? Any suggestions?
