TWO MORE DAYS

Again, Rita, Dan and Zeke, thanks for your comments.

As to Sunbeam:

I think I noticed a tone of derision and sarcasm in your posts. I bet youre one of those elitist snobs who think that TAPERING is only for the experienced who have a proven track record. This is not good for the sport and you should be ashamed in discouraging those who may actually be just trying to do the best they can. Your veiled suggestions that I might be using the TAPER (and the RECOVERY) as a means of getting out of house chores is just wrong and I resent the imputation that I might not be a hard worker.

I've worked hard at preparing for the taper including:

1) using and replacing three couches in the past ten years; 2) going through four TV's in the same time period; and 3) a numberless trail of well-used and dead remotes. May they RIP.

I have suffered numerous injuries including CST (channel switching thumb)which forced me to switch remote hands for over two months.

Quite simply, I am a TAPERER because I think I am a TAPERER.

I really am good at this.

I've tried other running training methods over the years:

A) the Marlboro Method ( "The best indicator of a competitive runner is their body's ability to use oxygen efficiently. Smoking cigarettes deprives the body of oxygen, forcing the body to learn to conserve and use the precious little amount of air available. Therefore smoking cigarettes trains the body to use oxygen efficiently which equals fast running.") B) FF=FF (Fat Food equal Far and Fast) ( "The body runs out of readily available energy sources in the muscles at about 20 miles and must start burning stored fat. Runners must train to utilize their body's fat to successfully compete at long distances. Eating fat food helps the body store more fat. Therefore, a runner should skip the middle ground and start with as little muscle as possible and an overabundance of fat." )

These didn't work as well as I hoped.

I do think that the TAPER and RECOVERY may actually be my primary strengths as a runner.

Your idea that I could make this a new profession is just plain silly. Some ideas are just to dumb to be taken seriously like buying and selling Pez candy dispensers over the internet or opening a restaurant that only sells coffee and expecting anybody to pay over a dollar a cup for it.

Bad ideas like that never work.

I have two more days before my first marathon. This is great because I can't think of that many things that I will ever do for the first time again.

If ignorance is bliss, I've reached Nirvana.
