When I really messed up my shoulders in swimming and karate, I started adding more kicking sets. The only problem was that the kick board put my shoulders into the elevated, impinged postion that made everything hurt even more! I got a pair of zoomers and know kick on my back, with my arms at my side in both flutter and dolphin kick.
Re the knee. It's not quite IT band, rather the lateral flexor retinaculum, which is a small slip of connective tissue from the IT band. Terry sayd I shouldn't have too many problems as long as I don't stress it. (Ha, Ha)
