I was instructed to take 4 ibuprofen (800 mg) every 4 hours. Of course this dosage is bad for the kidneys, especially in people who lose a lot of fluids, so I only did it for 3 or 4 days. I switched to naproxen and took 2(440 mg) in the am, 2 in the pm. This is about the same dosage which was in the RX I was previously given. I think the naproxen is better. I took these dosages due to an injury and would not take them on a regular basis. For the occasional running soreness just take the regular dosage. As a side note: One of my running friends collapsed during an ultra trail run a few years ago. They determined the cause to be kidney failure due to long term ibuprofen use (he took them daily during his training) and dehydration from the distance. It took him a couple of years to get back to normal running. I try not to use them unless necessary!
