Your friend needs to figure out the root cause of his cranky knee, because managing inflammation is not a cure.
Did he ramp up mileage too fast?
Is he training in sub-standard footwear?
Does he carry too much weight?
Does he run most of his miles on concrete sidewalks?
Or on crowned roads?
Does he have high arches?
Does he over-pronate?
Does he cross-train? Play basketball?
