I have always used GU since I started running in 2004 and on thru all my triathlon races, including Ironman Arizona. I have tried a few others and do not care for them. I have found that a trick I learned from 70.3 Ironman champion, Kate Major, has worked wonders. She carries a gel flask that she puts about (4) gels into, and then thins with a bit of water.. She takes a small mouthful every 30-40 mins and drinks water at the aide stations.. this way your blood sugar levels stay constant.. It is toug hto take a packet of that every 45-60 mins and get it all down.. It's not easy to fill your mouth with stuff that thick and drink enuf water so you do not get into trouble. With it thinned down, I sip on it and then take a swallow or two of water and keep moving. I will use about (4) and mix the flavors sometimes. Other times, I go all (4) of the same flavor.. Depending on how hard of a pace, a swallow about 30-40 mins and a couple swallows of water should work. Try the chews too... There are several out now but the Clif Shot bloks are good, so are GU Chomps, and the new Power Gel Blast chews are good... I use those to take a break from GU. Does the same thing.. Just remember to drink some water with them too.. Good Luck..
