Age 52, 42 marathons completed in last 12 years, one this year already. I have one in 3 weeks and another in 10 weeks. I decided to try running only 3 days a week to train for my next one and make them high quality runs, a 20 on the weekend, a tempo and a repeat workout midweek. All was going well until last week's 10 miler on the track. I started to feel the hamstring hurt. I did an 18 miler on Sunday and it was painful at 17. I haven't run since until 20 minutes ago and had to stop at 1.5 miles. My left hamstring is killing me. I've never had hamstring pain before, never had any pain before anywhere, but also may never have run as intensely as I have lately. The speedwork has taken its toll. So what do I do? How do I fix this? I never stretch. Is stretching going to help the pain? Advil did not. What is the remedy for hamstring pain caused by probably over use or overstretching my stride in speed workouts ? Thanks.
