First off, congrats on finishing your second marathon. Two things that stand out to me in what you wrote. First was that you are not as tired, so maybe you just didn't run as hard this time. Second was the heat and possibly not enough water. While it may not have been so hot that you noticed, it was unseasonably warm. That is, it has been cold and then we had this great warm day. That coupled with possibly not getting enough water when you needed it may have made a difference. Add to that the hills in the second half and 9 minutes gets explained fairly easily. By the way, have you looked at the elevation chart for Boston? Hills baby, the down hills for the first five (and the runners themselves) get you going too fast right from the start then around 20 you start the Newton hills, Heartbreak Hill others, but remember to enjoy it as those hills are legendary.
Also keep in mind that this winter was brutal, and just getting to the start line was an accomplishment... -Rita
