Know Your Body; Practice EVERYTHING in Advance

After 14 marathons, I'm starting to figure out my body:

1. If I drink anything after breakfast (which I eat 1-2 hours before the marathon), I need to take too many potty breaks during the marathon.

2. I do better to stop and walk through aid stations. The walking and the drinking do me good. I drink the Gatorade and not the pure water.

3. I still have to stop and a port-o-potty along the race route, so I plan an extra minute or two into my finish-time goal.

The important thing is that you practice in advance EVERYTHING that you plan to do during your marathon.
