Am new to this forum and hope to seek your advice here.
Have been running for 5 years, joined
four 10-km races (PB:- 57 minutes) three half marathons (PB: 2 :07)
From the start of 2009, my weekly mileage was around 30 to 40 km and started seriously trained for my first full marathon due for 2 Jan 2010 since mid-Sep.
Have started training in Sep with a base mileage of around 50 km per week, also joined a running club and started training for 6 days a week and managed to build up to 84 km per week, and Bonk, my shin splints flared up and have to take a week off. Physiotherapy and rest and cross-trained for that week and managed to PB in a half marathon race on 29 Nov.
However, I could not catch up with my previous training and my mileage is dwindling, 41km, 32 km and 45 km for the weeks after the full marathon race. Physiotherapy is non-stop during those times and am doing them now as well.
I have totally given up on time and am hoping just to complete the marathon. I managed to complete a very slow 31 km at around 3:50 which I felt slow though fine up till 27 km when my legs were tired and it's my mind pushing me through. Calves are tight at where the shin splints are and they felt sore too.
My most recent long runs and weekly mileage so far looks like this:-
Long Run Total Mileage that week 23.5 km 58.7 km 21 km 55 km 25 km 59.6 km 15 km 57 km 25 km 55.5 km 28 km 74 km 26 km 81 km 0 km 41 km (onset of shin splints) 21 km (Race after resting a week from shin splints) 32 km (with cross training) 17 km 32 km 31 km which was done just this Monday..... another 31 km the same weekend
Looking at my training so far..... realistically, am I asking for too much if I just want to finish a full marathon in 5 hours?
I have also looked up info on Galloway's run/walk and am planning to do:-
1km run and 1 min walk on race day.
Shins are tight at the start of the run and am completely off running in the three weeks of tapering, though I did/will do some swimming and stretching.
Looking for advice/reassurance/support...... Thank You! :-)
