I am going to do my first 1/2 Marathon in Feb. 2010 at the Rock 'n Run Mardi Gras Marathon in New Orleans. I am so excited and have enjoyed my running. I have a training schedule laid out and that is working well. However, I am having to cut back because of the dreaded shin splints. I usually have to walk or wobble back home and get the ice packs out. But the whole time all I can think about is getting past the pain and running again. Any suggestions for getting past the shin splints, so I can get back to running? It's killing me to make myself NOT run. And if I go to the gym to do weight training, I know I will end up on the treadmill... Well, regardless, I am excited to be doing my first half and I look forward to many more and soon full marathons! Thanks in advance for your suggestions and comments.
