A slow down in my pace coincided with menopause. I've been able to regain some of the decline in speed by using a foam roller after runs, and by taking ice water baths after runs longer than four miles or so. The foam roller has reduced soreness more effectively than anything else. I had purchased "the stick," which is the hard plastic massage tool promoted on this site, but it did nothing for me at all. Do a web search for "foam rollers" or "foam roller therapy" for information.
