She is somewhat more optimistic than I am, in attempting to go straight from zero to 26.2. However, if you are mechanically sound and watch out for little niggles of pain that don't go away, it is possible.
I'd aim for running a half-marathon late this year and not even think about anything longer until you see how that goes.
I may be biased, but I'd rather see someone become a regular runner than just someone who will join the 1,000's of folks who did one marathon and hung it up. I do wish you the best in your running endeavors, and as Rita mentioned, keep us posted.
