In the time it takes a fast runner to complete a marathon, Marine Corps sold out all of its field—2 hrs, 41 minutes. With electronic sign-up and internet/Facebook/multimedia buzz, is this going to be the norm going forward? Will people sign up just to avoid getting shut out?
If this is the new norm, then I'm hoping race directors allow at least transfers of bids if the runner can't make it—but under no circumstances should the runner be able to resell at a higher price or use Craig's list/eBay, etc. or expect a refund for any reason—either you sign up and run it or let it be transferred but absolutely no refunds/cancellations.
