A Great Day for American Running:
Meb Keflezighi wins the New York City Marathon!

Not since Alberto Salazar won the New York City in 1982 has an American won the New York City Marathon. In one of the deepest fields In New York City Marathon history, Meb Keflezighi has done what some might think is the impossible: Meb Keflezighi is the champion of the ING New York City Marathon in 2:09:15! (a new PR AND his first marathon win!).

    Sony Ericsson City of Oaks Marathon & Half Marathon - Nov 1 - Raleigh, NC
    Patrick Reaves, 24 of Durham NC, won the 2009 City of Oaks Marathon in 2:33:03. Orinthal Striggles, 33 of Elgin SC, who was sixth in 2008, finished second in 2:38:23. Nicholas Robin, 32 of Durham NC, was third in 2:39:37.
    Elena Kaledina, 43 of Eugene OR, the runner-up of the 2009 Akron Marathon, was the first female finisher in 2:49:52. Svetlana Baygulova, 34 of Hebron KY, the runner-up at the 26.2 with Donna: The National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer Marathon and third place finisher at the 2009 Des Moines Marathon, finished second in 2:55:03. Monica Joyce, 51 of Ann Arbor MI, the winner of the 2009 Boulder Backroads Marathon, was third in 3:03:28.

    Manchester City Marathon - Nov 1 - Manchester, NH
    Fikadu Lema, 25 of Bronx NY, won the 2009 Manchester City Marathon in 2:23:46. 2007 Champion Scott Rowe, 35 of Dover NH, finished second in 2:28:09. Eduard Gapak, 26 of New York NY, was third in 2:32:47.
    In the women's field, Dirbe Hubde, 25 of Bronx NY, was the first female finisher in 2:55:17. Marie Strouse, 24 of Orono ME, finished second in 3:06:30. Defending champion Christin Doneski, 38 of Kopkinton NH, who finished second in 2007, was third in 3:07:10.

    Losani Homes Road2Hope Hamilton Marathon - Nov 1 - Hamilton, ON, Canada
    Phillip Samoei, of Kenya, the runner-up at the 2009 Edmonton Centennial Marathon, won the 2009 Road 2 Hope Hamilton Marathon when he crossed the finish line in 2:22:11. Paul Rugut, of Kenya, winner of the 2009 Toronto Marathon, finished second in 2:29:04. Greg Wieczorek, of GBR, was third in 2:34:54.
    In the women's field, Krista Duchene, of Brantford, the winner fo the 2009 Mississauga Marathon, was the winner in 2:46:27. Jennifer Eberman, of Toronto, who was third at the 2009 Mississauga Marathon, finished second in 2:54:17. Katie Snowden, of Toronto, was third in 2:55:14.

    HealthyHuntington.org Marshall University Marathon - Nov 1 - Huntington, WV
    2005 Champion John Davis, 25 of Huntington WV, won the 2009 Marshall University Marathon in 2:43:56. Josh Hite, 31 of Cookeville TN, recorded his ninth podium appearance of 2009 by finishing second in 2:49:21. Vincent Battista, 45 of Chesapeake OH, was third in 2:52:07.
    Christina Johnston, 29 of Xenia OH, was the first female to finish in 2:56:19. Tracy Lightfoot, 24 of Louisville KY, finished second in 3:11:56. Michele Sollenberger, 47 of Copley OH, was third in 3:12:45.

    Bass Pro Shops Marathon - Nov 1 - Springfield, MO
    James Cheruiyot, 26 of Kenya, the winner of the 2009 Lewis & Clark (MO) Marathon, won the 2009 Bass Pro Shops Marathon in 2:25:03. Kipruto Roitch, a Kenyan residing in Columbia MO, finished second in 2:32:48. Steve Werths, 22 of Granite City IL, was third in 2:35:28.
    Traci Kresser, 23 of Clive IA, was the first female finisher in 2:56:39. Andrea McGehee, 41 of Lees Summit MO, the winner of the 2008 Fargo and erie Marathons, finished second in 3:15:10. Rosie Laughlin, 44 of Springfield MO, was third in 3:23:25.

    Rails to Trails Marathon - Nov 1 - Norwalk, WI
    Aaron Stenberg, 20, won the 2009 Rails to Trails Marathon when he crossed the finish line in 2:55:52. Alan Dreyer, 23, finished second in 2:58:11. Anne Dreyer, 25, was the first female finisher and third overall in 2:59:06. Rick Stefanovic, 47, was the third male finisher and fourth overall in 2:59:12. Kathy Waldron, 50, the winner of the 2009 Carrollton Festival of Races, was the second female to finish in 3:33:50. Heather Fitzloff, 35, was the third female finisher in 3:41:44.

    Murray Ridge Center Inland Trail Marathon - Nov 1 - Elyria, OH
    Kyle Bowman, 26, won the 2009 Inland Trail Marathon in a personal best time of 2:44:03. Vince Rucci, 32, finished second in 2:47:38. Kevin Thomas, 35, was third in 2:48:13.
    Sara Skilliter, 37, was the first female finisher in a new course record time of 3:05:04. Eileen Mesler, 46, finished second in 3:20:23. Susan Ottogalli, 42, was third in 3:24:18.

    Enviro-Sports Napa Valley Wine Country Trail Marathon - Oct 31 - Calistoga, CA
    Chris Huxley, 42 of Elfin Forest CA, won the 2009 Napa Wine Country Marathon in 3:08:39. Gabriel Sanctuary, 38 of Novato CA, finished second in 3:23:10. Heather Mastrianni, 38 of Healdsburg CA, was third overall and the first female finisher in 3:35:22. Kennet De Silva, 28 of San Francisco CA, finished fourth overall and was the third male finisher.
    Colleen Corcoran, 30 of San Francisco CA, finished second in the women's race in 3:50:58. Lisa Carroll, 40 of Oakland CA, was third in 3:59:07.

    St. Louis Ultrarunners Group Frankenstein Marathon - Nov 1 - Frankenstein, MO
    Mark Barkofske, 52 of KS, won the 2009 Frankenstein Marathon in 3:44:19. Jason Niswonger, 35 of MO, finished second in 3:51:49. Paul Parry, 43 of IA, was third in 3:54:40.
    Julie Spencer, 32 of WI, was the first female finisher in 3:57:19. Debe Jajko, 55 of MO, finished second in 3:59:50. Joanna Hollenback, 34 of WI, was third in 4:11:06.

    Clyde Wilson, 28 of Henderson NV, the runner-up of the 2009 Andy Payne Marathon, won the 2009 Hoover Dam Marathon in 2:46:23. Erik Seitlow, 42 of Arvada CO, finished second in 3:20:59. Jean Sicotte, 35 of Littleton CO, was third in 3:28:48.
    In the women's field, Kathy Langin, 47 of Las Vegas, was the winner in 3:42:34. Erika Ewing, 20 of Logan UT, the winner of the Forest of Nisene Marks Marathon, finished second in 3:53:19. Lora Tang, 43 of Riverside CA, was third in 3:55:22.

    Rowan Hooper won the 2009 Auckland Marathon when he crossed the finish line in 2:31:46. Glynn Hadley finished second in 2:35:00. Gavin Stevens was third in 2:37:20.
    In the women's field, Jess Ruthe was the winner in 2:49:55. Lara Phillips finished second in 2:54:57. Melissa Norris was third in 2:55:57.

    Rio de Janeiro was chosen by the IOC as the host of the 2016 Olympic Games beating out Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo. Pundits universally cite the fact that the Olympics have never been held in South America as one of the key deciding factors for the selection.

    Dathan Ritzenhein Scores Bronze at World Half Marathon Championships
    2009 seems to be the year for Dathan Ritzenhein as the running star just seems to be getting faster and better at every distance. Starting with his 2:10:00 marathon finish at the London Marathon in April to his 10000m PR of 27:22.28 to his 5000m American Record of 12:56.27 and now his 1:00:00 Half Marathon PR at the World Half Marathon Championships. That time earned Ritz a bronze medal and also gives him the second fastest half marathon ever run by an American.
