COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was the first time running this race and I live in Carlsbad. I drive and walk through many of the roads and paths on a regular basis around the marked course. I travel out of state often to participate in races and always very observant throughout the race from registration, to parking, to fluids, to the swag, and of course the race itself. I love my little town but as I was running through the course I kept asking myself, 'If I drove to the middle of nowhere NM and ran this thing would I come back?' The answer is yes. It highlighted all of natural beauties of Carlsbad including the Pecos River/Park, the flumes, and the nice neighborhoods with big wide streets. The police were friendly in monitoring traffic and all the volunteers were very helpful (half of them were my friends). But also the local cross country team did a wonderful job assisting the race director in organizing the event. Even though the cost is similar to many other full marathons, and I run these roads all the time. There is no doubt that I will be participating in it again next year. | |

"Nice, small race for NM" (about: 2017)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I recommend this marathon for NM. Low elevation helps a lot. Also, race is very friendly and well-organized. Three stars for course because there was some construction, but volunteers were very helpful and nice warning about this before the turn - it only lasted very short part of course. Course was very well marked but would recommend that on second loop, ensure someone at the last major cross between miles 12 and 13 (and 25 and 26 for second loop). The mayor came and spoke at the start which was a very nice touch! Also, we had group photo which was awesome! Aid stations were plenty and friendly. Really appreciate the volunteer between miles 7 and 9 (construction section) as she was most helpful. A necklace is provided as the medal which was lovely, indicated race, state, year and has nice design - something you can wear. Age awards were bobble heads! Awesome! Indicated that you placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in age group and is super cute! All and all, a great operation and event that I highly recommend. |
